As a pop diva, it’s no surprise that my children have grown up in the spotlight. They’ve been by my side through countless performances, interviews, and red carpet events. And now, as they turn 16, I can’t help but reflect on how much they’ve grown and how proud I am of the young adults they’ve become.
But as any parent knows, the teenage years can be a challenging time. It’s a time of self-discovery, rebellion, and pushing boundaries. And as much as I want to hold onto my children and keep them close, I also know that it’s important for them to spread their wings and experience life on their own terms.
Recently, during an interview on «Good Morning America,» I was asked about my plans for the summer. And without hesitation, I shared that my children will be taking a break from their busy schedules and joining me on tour. But before I could even finish my sentence, I was met with a resounding «No, Mom» from both of them.
At first, I was taken aback. I had always envisioned us traveling the world together, performing on stage, and making memories that would last a lifetime. But as I listened to their reasons for wanting to stay home, I realized that they were growing up and making their own decisions. And as much as it may pain me to admit it, they were right.
My children have been working tirelessly for years, juggling school, music lessons, and their own budding careers. And while I may have been their biggest cheerleader, I also have to acknowledge that they need a break. They need time to relax, recharge, and just be teenagers.
So instead of pushing them to join me on tour, I’ve decided to support their decision and give them the summer they deserve. I’ve planned a fun-filled summer for them at home, complete with pool parties, movie nights, and even a trip to their favorite amusement park. And I couldn’t be more excited to see them enjoy their well-deserved break.
As a parent, it’s important to recognize when our children need space and when they need our support. And while it may be hard to let go, it’s also necessary for their growth and development. I’ve always encouraged my children to follow their dreams and pursue their passions, and now it’s time for me to step back and let them do just that.
But that doesn’t mean I won’t miss them while I’m on tour. They’ve been my constant companions for so long, and it will be strange not having them by my side. But I know that they’ll be cheering me on from home, and I’ll be counting down the days until we’re reunited.
So to all the parents out there who may be facing a similar situation, I encourage you to listen to your children and support their decisions. It may not always be easy, but it’s important to let them spread their wings and discover who they are. And who knows, they may surprise you with their independence and maturity.
As for me, I couldn’t be prouder of my children and the young adults they’ve become. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them. But for now, I’ll cherish every moment I have with them and continue to support them in all their endeavors. After all, that’s what being a parent is all about – loving, supporting, and letting go when the time comes.
